Gedo Senki

Gedo Senki’s story is a free adaptation of the novel series Earthsea Cycle of the author (Hugo Award winner) Ursula K. Le Guin and also has the manga inspiration “Shuna’s Journey” of great Hayao Miyazaki (father of film director). I can not comment on adaptation as has been because I have not read the works in which the film is based, but I guess after watching the film and after some statements of the author has not grasped the essence of the novels. The characters that appear in the film are interesting and I think it is deepened at all in his past and his motives, tiptoes on that aspect and that it weakens the whole. Furthermore we are not presented in detail the world of Earthsea and its rules. The comparison between Hayao (father) and Goro (son) is inevitable and in this first work Goro is simply not up to his father. Without going into technical details as the soundtrack, the animation and atmosphere are good (but not amazing as in recent films) fails in the way of telling the story, there are excellent moments mixed with scenes inconsequential, and lack a common thread identification with the protagonist. After all this I do not give the impression that it is a bad movie, by contrast, is entertaining and even has spectacular moments, but is that the previous productions of Studio Ghibli masterpieces were counted in and the bar was extremely high. Therefore I praise the courage of Goro Miyazaki to undertake this project but I can not help thinking what might have been that these materials into the hands of the master Hayao
